We’ve tackled the towering Rockies, dodged our way through the wilds of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and conquered the unforgiving terrain of Montana. Now, the Adventureman’s Guild is setting its sights on Moab, Utah, a 1000-kilometer odyssey on pint-sized bikes. This is the ride that will test your mettle, your machine, and your determination to cross the most jaw-dropping landscapes the American Southwest has to offer. Ready to join us?

Why You Should Be There:
- Adventure: 7 days, 1000 km, and you on a 76 cm tall monkey bike crawling through the desert at 32 kph. It’s the adventure you never knew you needed.
- Camaraderie: Join a group of 30 like-minded riders, all battling the elements, the terrain, and possibly their own sanity. But we’re in this together.
- Challenge: This isn’t your ordinary rally. From maintaining your bike on the fly to navigating the rugged roads of Utah, the only thing certain is uncertainty.
Bike Requirements:
This ride is designed for the tiniest of motorcycles, and we have some hard rules to make sure the challenge stays real:
- Nothing over 150cc
- No wheels over 12 inches
Allowable Bikes:
Honda CT70 and Clones
Honda Dax (Vintage)
Honda Z-50 Style
Honda Monkey (Modern)
Honda Dax (Modern)
Honda Trail Series Bikes with sub 12” wheels
We encourage the use of Carbureted Vintage Originals or Chinese Clones of the CT-70 trail mini or Z-50 style Honda monkey bikes—these are the crème de la crème for this event. They come with quirks, challenges, and loads of character. Plus, parts are easy to find, which will definitely come in handy.
For those bringing a New Model Honda Monkey or DAX, while these modern bikes offer superior reliability and performance we expect extra retro style attempts to keep the vibe authentic. Think cool saddle bags, helmets, and riding gear from a bygone era.
Team Up for Success
While you’re free to ride solo, we highly recommend forming a team of 3 to 5 riders. Each team will be provided with a 27-gallon HDX tote (one per team) to stash spare parts and tools needed for emergency repairs. This is not for camping gear or personal items—keep those separate. You’ll need to plan ahead: the truck carrying your team’s repair tote will only be at the next designated stop. So, if something breaks, you and your team are responsible for getting the bike to a serviceable road.
And heads up—we’re no longer providing a parts bike for cannibalizing. If your bike fails, you’ll need to rely on your wits and your team’s tote to get it going again.
Support Truck Guidelines:
The support truck is there for catastrophic failures only, and even then, it’s not guaranteed to be at every scheduled stop. There may be parts of the route where the terrain prevents the truck from reaching certain stops. If your bike suffers a major failure, like a blown engine or a shattered swing arm, something that can't be fixed roadside… that’s when the truck comes into play.
However, it’s crucial to note that the truck is not there to handle basic repairs like adjusting your carburetor, fixing a broken chain, or patching a flat tire. Those are repairs you should be ready to tackle on your own, right on the side of the road. You need to carry the tools and parts necessary for those common issues, and you won’t be able to rely on the truck to “save the day” for minor problems.
If your bike is beyond repair and the truck can access your location, it will transport you and your bike back to base camp at the starting line. There, you’ll wait until the rest of the participants arrive later in the week.
That said, the truck is not an EMS, medical transport, or taxi service. For medical emergencies or situations requiring recovery, the authorities or search and rescue teams will need to handle it. We highly recommend carrying a satellite communication device (such as an InReach Mini) for emergencies and purchasing travel insurance that covers helicopter extraction and medical evacuation services.
Packing Like a Pro:
We’ve seen it before—bikes overloaded with gear and riders toppling over when the terrain gets tough. It turns out, most injuries on these tiny bikes come down to improper loading. When you stack gear too high on the back or overload the front, you mess with the bike’s center of gravity, making it harder to control.
The result? Riders sitting too far forward with no room to react, leading to more trips over the handlebars than anyone wants to count. To help you avoid this, we’ll be holding a loading demonstration at the launch, showing you how to pack smart and safe. The key? Keep your gear low, balanced, and avoid putting too much stress on your rear rack or handlebars.
If we determine that your loadout is unsafe, you will not be allowed to ride until it’s fixed and approved. We don’t guarantee safety, but we do guarantee that learning from our years of experience will give you the best shot at a successful (and less painful) ride.
What’s Covered in the Entry Fee:
- Transportation of your bike and your repair tote (for Michigan-based riders).
- Tent camping sites for the first and last nights.
- Orientation on monkey bike maintenance (because you’ll definitely need it).
- A launch party to get everyone fired up and ready.
- 7 days of rugged, unfiltered adventure on some of the best trails in the world.
- Finish line celebration—because after 1000 km, you’ve earned it.
- Other swag and goodies to commemorate your epic ride.
Rider Requirements:
- You must be 18+ and an active Guild member.
- Have a valid motorcycle license and endorsement.
- Ensure your bike is insured, plated, and compliant with Utah’s road laws.
- A DOT-approved helmet is required.
The Challenge Awaits:
Forget your day-to-day routine. On this journey, you’ll be responsible for yourself and your bike. We provide minimal direction, giving you the freedom to forge your own path. Traverse the deserts and mountains at your own pace, camp where you want, and ride the roads that call to you. But remember, in case of a breakdown, the truck is only meeting you at designated stops, so you and your team must make it there one way or another.
Let’s get ready for The Great American Monkey 1000 in Moab, where the only certainty is that nothing is certain, and adventure is the only rule.
